Skip Diving

This eye test lamp is one of my favourite freebies ever. It now has pride of place in my living room, next to my downstairs Mad Wall. I found it in the skip at the hospital where I used to work. Of course I asked permission before I hoiked it out and into the back of my car. It is a much admired freebie. I’ve been offered good money for it in the past. The top lights up when the lamp is plugged in. The red and green bottom part can be turned on and off with a separate switch. My find wasn’t completely free. There is a myriad of bulbs in there that needed to be converted to low energy ones.

That skip at work was a treasure trove. At one time the NHS decided that the good quality wooden furniture on the ward was a health hazard. I rescued a wardrobe, shelves and a chest of drawers for Louis’ childhood bedroom. I ignored my nurse friend who said that the cupboard had probably been peed in by a confused man trying to find the toilet! It was also the source of this wheeled table. I gave it a paint job and mosaicked the top.
