Since Brian May played the National Anthem on the roof of Buckingham Palace in 2002 the rock group Queen seem inextricably linked with HM Queen Elizabeth II in my mind. So on the day of her funeral I’m sharing one of their tracks that reflects on a life that is just about to pass.
‘These are the Days of Our Lives’ is from the album ‘Innuendo’, recorded just before the legendary Freddie Mercury died. It gave rise one of the most haunting music videos ever produced. It was evident from his physical state that Freddie was not long for the world. Yet he exuded positivity and dignity.
Now I’m sure the music at the state funeral will be much more sedate and austere. But I want this reflection on a life played when I pass. It’s a reminder that a life with love is a life well lived.
