Most of the furniture in our house is of the repurposed kind, good quality stuff bought from secondhand sources or kindly gifted to me. There’s not much that’s of the self assembled variety. Shelving however is the exception. My massive Kallax storage unit from IKEA with its twenty five compartments is one example. All credit to the big Swedish superstore, it’s stood the test of time. I’ve had it for way over a decade. It’s survived being disassembled twice for house moves ,and although it’s a little battered now, there’s plenty of life left in it yet. Recently it’s had a good upgrade and a tidy up. I’m really pleased with the result.

The Kallax houses all my crafting materials for printing, jewellery making, sewing and mosaic. I used to have cardboard drawers for my tools but decided to treat myself to something rather more substantial that would make organisation much easier. So, it was off to IKEA on the outskirts of Exeter to buy a row of special inserts, Lured by the promise of meatballs and Dime Bar cake Louis came with me. He also made up most of the drawers when we got home. My strange son loves making up a flatpack!
