Why I’m In Love With My Phone’s Camera App

In the winter of 2011 I took my son Louis to Yellowstone for his first visit. We shared the park with a group of people on a photography course. Goodness me the kit they carried around. Some of those lenses were like dustbins! Whereas they had to make a special effort to shoot those geysers I just pulled my phone out of my pocket. Okay I’ll admit the picture quality probably isn’t as good. But no matter. With portability I’m able to take photos whenever I want to.

I did a photography course once and afterwards had a hankering for a really posh SLR camera but that’s gone now. One thing that I did learn was to take lots of shots and some of them would come out okay! Maybe if I had a massive windfall I’d get a super duper one that had an amazing camera but my common and garden economy phones do for now.

So today I thought I’d wander through Google Photos and share a few shots that caught my eye. Of course the first on my list had to be a geyser. This is Beehive, my favourite.

Sand Art

When we go to a beach Paul and I often make pictures of people from our beach finds. They always have willies or boobies depending on their sex. This one that we left behind on a beach in Wales also had a heart.

The Bendy Tree

In the hinterlands of the South Hams there’s my favourite tree. I used to love seeing it when I worked in the community in the area. One day I managed to take this photo when there was a bit of argy-bargy between two vehicles in the narrow lane I didn’t mind being stuck in this spot for a while.

Wire Man

This guy was in the garden centre of Buckfast Abbey when I last visited. It’s a place I love to visit for its stunning craftsmanship,, sense of peace and yummy food in the restaurant.

The Potting Shed That I Covet

This beauty is at the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. Isn’t it beautiful? For now through I’ll have to do with my two recycled greenhouses and wonky shed.

All Eyes On Me

This installation was spotted on a hot, hot summer day at the Storm King Art Center in New York

What a Meadow Should Look Like

I can’t quite picture where I took this but it was possibly in the wild flower beds of the park close to home.

Man and Boy

The Man and Boy sculpture in my home town, I’m always amazed when I get a good phone camera shot with low light.

Southend’s Finest

This is the Kursaal in Southend-on-Sea where I grew up. It’s such an iconic building which housed one of the world’s first built amusement parks. I dimly remember a roller coaster. Sadly it’s in a terrible state of disrepair now.

Rainbow Bookcase

Here’s how I artily used to arrange the bookcase at home. Sadly it really used to piss Paul off because he could never find the book that he needed So the arrangement has had to be modified.
